Cooper Baldwin (he/him/his) is a composer, arranger, producer, and performer currently residing in New York City.   Raised up on show tunes and choral music, he has since fallen in love with a wide array of musical styles and finds great joy in fusing them together to create new and unexpected sounds.  He is a fierce advocate for collaboration between art forms and the use of music to breathe life and color into storytelling.

During back-to-back internships with the DreamWorks Animation Music Department, Cooper assisted with multiple productions, including the animated feature film Trolls and the animated television series VeggieTales in the House. He continues to work freelance as a music transcriber and copyist on productions for Netflix Studios and Netflix Animation, including the feature films Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey and The Half Of It and the televisions series Julie and the Phantoms and Centaurworld.

His original compositions have been featured on stage and on film; most recently in productions of As You Like It, The Crucible, and in the short film “Gone Away.” He has had the distinction of being awarded multiple honors for his original work, including the grand prize of the 2019 Capital Hearing’s Young Composer’s Contest, the grand prize of the Cantate Chamber Singers’ 11th Biennial Composition Competition, first place in the the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra’s 2017 Composer-In-Residence Competition, and an honorable mention in the 2019 Stephen Paulus Emerging Composers Competition.

As an orchestrator, he recently had the pleasure of being commissioned to write for Tony-award nominated actress Sally Mayes' original play Contradiction Of The Southern Soul, which ran from May 9th-12th 2019 in the Quintero Theater at the University of Houston. As an arranger, his work has been performed by numerous high school choirs across the country, including the John Burroughs High School “Powerhouse” choir (Burbank, CA), the Walsh Jesuit High School “Harmony Gold” choir (Cuyahoga Falls, OH), and the Cosby High School “Spotlight” choir (Midlothian, VA). 

He holds a bachelor’s degree in music composition cum laude from Oklahoma City University, where he studied with Dr. Edward Knight, Dr. Corey Gavito, Dr. Jamie Whitmarsh, and Lendell Black.  He is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and an associate member of the New York chapter of the Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL). When not pursuing musical endeavors, Cooper can be found advocating for social justice and LGBTQ+ causes or quietly playing his Nintendo Switch and nursing a sizable glass of chardonnay.
